Tonight, there are so many updates to bring you that I had to make it all one show.  From specific release dates for shows to cosmetic changes to things you already watch, there is so much that I had to make the information about Lime Flavored.com into its own show.  You will be hearing about Moonrise, the missing Lime Lords – Limeline episodes, a possible return for Echoes Darkly, and new beta shows coming in the near future.  There are gaming announcements (actual play) and much more!  Don’t miss this episode!

I am proud (and giddy) to announce that I have landed a role in Star Wars: Episode VII!

I’ve only just gotten back from Hollywood after auditioning for the part of Luke Skywalker’s nosey neighbor in the new Star Wars movie and I’ve landed the role.  While I only have about three lines, they are wonderful and I’m just happy to be part of the new Star Wars trilogy… and the saga as a whole.

The part I’m playing is Kre-mar and I get to burst into Luke Skywalker’s hut on Tatooine, his X-Wing cockpit, and his first Jedi Academy training session.  Each instance is a different line, thankfully, and I get to mock Jar Jar Binks in one of them… though I’m not sure how Luke knows anything about Binks, to be honest with you.  I won’t reveal my lines to you but I asked if I could announce my involvement and JJ Abrams said “sure, go for it.”

Now that I’m in JJ’s rolodex, I have also been petitioning for a place in the next Star Trek movie, tentatively title Star Trek Up A Mountain.  The part I’m looking for is Sulu’s half brother Juan, who is a little overweight and got into Starfleet because Sulu called in some favors.  I think I’m a shoe-in for the role, especially after my part in the Star Wars movie!

The Greatest Show Online’s 2nd episode has been postponed.  The Lime Lords – Limeline episode has been postponed.  The High Council of Lime Lords scheduled for next week has been postponed.

The schedule has been altered slightly and will be altered again.  Sorry for the confusion.

Lime Lords – Limeline 3 – The Edge of Destruction will be released next week.  There were some errors in what was put together and rather than put it out in substandard condition, I wanted to redo the file entirely.  I apologize for the delay.

In any case, the maintenance won’t be taking the site down at all, so don’t worry about that.  I will just be working as hard as possible to get that episode out and prepare for the rest of the week.  I apologize if I cannot get the episode released today, it is my intent to have it out as soon as possible… then put the episodes out on a weekly basis on Saturdays.

Tonight, there will be some major announcements to discuss about the future of Lime Flavored.com.  Join me on Google+!

1. The Lime Flavored Show will continue on Mondays, either released early in the day or be live between 7:30-8:30 pm Central.
   
2. Limelight on Apple will continue to be live on Wednesdays between 7:30-8:30 pm Central.
3. Echoes Darkly will return to an “every other Saturday” schedule and be pre-produced with new co-host Bob Miotto until Sean can return.
4. Lime Flavored Chess will be monthly and occur on the last Thursday of each month.
5. The High Council of Lime Lords (or the impending Lime Lords: Limeline) will be on Tuesdays.

New Echoes Darkly co-host, and former Bobcast star Bob Miotto, and I are working on a new show (of a comedic variety).  The current plan is to put it on Saturdays, alternating with Echoes Darkly and be pre-produced.  With this sixth show, the current slate of Lime Flavored Network audio/video offerings will remain until other content deals can be reached.

As for the promised Moonrise and Dark Green: Forever Winter series, those have taken a different direction.  Moonrise is completely written and has been held up with production due to trying to keep the rest of the schedule flowing.  Since the schedule of other shows has produced some problems, the decision to release the text of the story on Lime Flavored.com has been decided, until such a time when an audio production can be completed.

Dark Green: Forever Winter, Project: Garnet (codenamed series), Project: Topaz (codenamed series), and Starscape (working title) are all being written and are in various stages of completion.  As I am able to complete and/or work on the writing without needing to sit down and produce any audio/video, these will all be released when they are at a place/time or in a state where release online makes sense.  These will be written, like Moonrise, and will be hopeful options for future audio/video content.

No release date has been set for Moonrise at this time.

Starting with the Doctor Who serial An Unearthly Child, the Lime Travelers will zoom through space and lime to bring you reviews and commentary about Doctor Who… from the beginning through the present.  It will be a long journey, will you be along with them?

The first episode will be released March 5, are you going to be ready?

What’s the topic?  Well, the idea is to share what he’s watching currently and perhaps talk a little about what movies are coming up that are interesting to him in the coming year.  Oh, and don’t forget the updates from the website and network are included!

I have updated the schedule to reflect that the first edition of this show (which, at least for episode one, will be broadcast live) will be on February 16.  I have also decided to keep the Echoes Darkly brand name and just subtitle this thing “library edition,” though I’m still determining if I should continue on with the numbering or start a new numbering line… at this point, though, it’ll have separate numbers.

That is becoming increasingly difficult under the circumstances.

CyberChimp, which is the creator of the site template that I am using, has recently pushed an update that has broken some of the key features of the template.  The original plan was to move to a template with a different look, although also created by CyberChimp, and carefully get that set up.  After a forum conversation with CyberChimp’s programmers, it has been made abundantly clear that the “free template” I am currently using is not a priority for the team, nor is the ability to alter the originally planned new theme without paying for the “pro version,” which features the line “we aren’t sure you can get that changed in pro support, either, but that’s the only way to find out.”

Instead, I will begin altering Lime Flavored.com as soon as possible with a new theme, better theme, than anything currently produced by CyberChimp.  If the customer service wasn’t terrible, they wouldn’t have had me looking in different places for the services I need.

I apologize for the site being a little hard to navigate over the course of the next few weeks, but rest assured that everything will be completed by the January 1, 2013 deadline.  The status of the Lime Flavored Special on December 2, however, is undetermined as of the writing of this post.

The High Council of Lime Lords has begun convening to watch the ENTIRE SERIES from the first story right on through current day.  While only An Unearthly Child has been knocked out at this point, we have scheduled to meet for The Daleks, which will lead us to schedule at least one more episode before the Lime Lords return to audio in your ears.

The concept behind this is that we re-watch Doctor Who, from the beginning, every episode and comment… while we wait for Doctor Who to return to us live.  We just wanted to build up a few episodes before we start releasing our take on Doctor Who from the beginning.  Fear not, the Lime Lords are still traveling through lime… uh… time.

After this, the group changed to 3 new people and only recorded 1 session completely in tact.  The new group changed 2 more members (and gained a fifth) before we disassembled permanently.

What is going to happen on this broadcast?  I’m glad you asked.

The whole point of the broadcast is to announce what will be happening on Lime Flavored.com starting in January of 2013.  With the new year comes new things, and though I’ve already mentioned what is happening to a few people (as well as to listeners of some of the netcasts on the feed), I will save the actual details for the announcement itself.  Once the broadcast is over, audio and video presentations will be put out on the Lime Flavored iTunes feed (as well as a specialized Lime Flavored Specials feed to be created) so that you can watch the event at your leisure.

This is a new beginning and new direction for Lime Flavored.com and I hope you’ll join me for the announcement.   Thank you for listening, and watching, Lime Flavored.com and I hope you’ll continue as we move into the future.

Batman doesn’t need an origin told OR another movie.  Whoever is doing the Batman 2015 project listed on IMDB should be Batman.  The Batman is taken care of.

Superman also doesn’t need an origin told OR another movie.  Use Man of Steel as the seed and Henry Cavill as Superman.  You don’t even need to seed the concept of a movie universe in it, but it would be nice.

Green Lantern doesn’t need an origin told OR another movie… but a sequel would help.  Ryan Reynolds should be GL and he should get a little more character development, but if he doesn’t get it, so be it.

Wonder Woman NEEDS an origin told.  How do you do that in one single movie, combining Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and the gang?  That’s part of the fun. We don’t want to touch that, yet.  Aquaman needs an origin told, but his origin doesn’t need to be told until AFTER Justice League.   Flash also needs an origin told, but his origin can be told as part of the story.  Same thing goes for Cyborg.

Yes, I’m using the New 52 Justice League.

We don’t want to use Darkseid.  We don’t want to use Sinestro.  We don’t want to use Lex Luthor.  We don’t want to use ANY recognizable villain from DC.  We need to use an amorphous, or newly created, villain for the Justice League movie.  But DJ, that never works.  Hear me out. Let’s call my super space villain Death Bomb and he’s coming to Earth to blow it up because there is an element in the center of the planet he needs to build his doomsday machine to rid the universe of the Green Lantern Corps.  Death Bomb is now directly a problem for Green Lantern.  Check one.

Knowing of an impending attack on Earth, utilizing Godly wisdom, Diana is sculpted and brought into the world to defend  it against this impending doom.  She is equipped, trained, and sent to Metropolis, Gotham, or New York to meet “her destiny.”  This will require a well designed montage.

Barry Allen and Victor Stone are working in the same building, though on different floors (and on different things).  Stone’s research is related to cybernetic equipment that adapts and is intelligent and blah, blah, blah… Allen is working one some cure for cancer, or something.  The “wave” that is the first sign of Death Bomb’s approach hits New York (I’m just using this as the generic city instead of naming them constantly) and causes their building to buckle.  The buckling forces Allen into a butt load of chemicals and he is gifted with the speed force… and discovers this by racing all over the building.  Stone is crushed by part of the building, bound for certain death.  Allen, speeding all over the place, frees Stone (by proximity) and Stone decides the only way to save his life is to merge with his experimental cybernetic implants.  That takes care of those two.

Aquaman emerges to the surface world for the first time after the shockwave to find out what happened.  His watery kingdom is in an uproar and he tries to figure out what’s going on to save it.

This leads us to Batman and Superman, who are both in New York and save a few lives before meeting for the first time.  Both relate some knowledge of strange things going on and we’ve taken care of the whole cast.  Aquaman finds them and gives a little more knowledge (like the existence of the element that is reacting that Death Bomb is after), Wonder Woman shows up to relate her bit of knowledge (Godly wisdom that tells about the general nature of Death Bomb).  Green Lantern shows up to tell them, yes, it’s Death Bomb.  Now they need to fight him.

FIght ensues.  Justice League wins.  Death Bomb is destroyed.  The Earth is saved.  Yay.

Now Aquaman can have a TV series or movie.  Wonder Woman can have her TV series.  Flash can get a series or movie, too.  Batman’s 2015 reboot can happen.  Superman can have “Man of Steel 2,” Cyborg can have his cameos in all those other works OR get his own TV show or movie… Green Lantern can have another movie.

DC has just created a movie universe, STARTING with Justice League.  Justice League 2 can concentrate on the villain… like Darkseid, or maybe go with Martian Manhunter in that one… who knows.  The possibilities are endless.

This week takes us through the very end of the files we were able to save from the server… there are at least 2 lost episodes (34 & 35) and there may be 2 files labeled differently that are actually the same episode… sorry.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to focus on anything but helping my wife prepare for our largest show of the year.  That is done, now, but we have a little clean up to do and then I can resume doing what I’ve been trying to do for the last couple of months: prepare the Lime Flavored Network.

What does that all involve?  Well, there are things I need to get written.  Project Garnet has to be written, in full, and once that is done the audio needs to be produced.  Project Opal needs to be “polished up” and audio needs to be recorded.  Other things need to be put in line to be ready for the Lime Flavored Network.  The new set for the Lime Flavored Show needs to be completed, additional sets need to be created, audio/visual tests need to be run, and so much more.  And now, I finally have the time to work on it.

I have reached the light at the end of the tunnel!

Universal Truths

First and foremost, I want to say that when I say “fix,” I am simply talking about the constant ret-conning and constant reliance on continuity.   What I’m saying is that DC didn’t have to completely reboot their universe and Marvel doesn’t have to pull their “NOW!” initiative… whatever it ends up being.  Let me explain.

Professional wrestling is limited by the real world.  Guys get hurt.  Guys get old.  There is a “moment in time,” if you will, that allows those guys to be superstars.  Big names.  They rule the wrestling world and they become well known, super popular, and they get a chance to shape the era in which they are popular.  Despite all of this, those dominant forces in the world of wrestling work together towards making something entertaining and cohesive.

The Marvel and DC universes do the same thing, essentially, but they have been doing them for 50 to 60 years and what we’ve got are characters that are unrealistically preserved and who go through “daytime soap opera” antics (deaths and undeaths).  I’m not necessarily complaining about this but I’m technically complaining.

So, how do you fix it?  Looking at pro wrestling.

Vince McMahon, owner of the WWE since the 80s, hasn’t just sat on his laurels and lived with the superstars his father left him.  He took those superstars and started cultivating new ones.  When the “old guard” wasn’t able to continue, Vince’s own creations (which I’ll call the new guard) took the reigns.  The new guard would reign for a little while, and if Vince had decided his efforts didn’t need to continue, he would have just let things go and then the new guard would fade out just like the old guard.  He didn’t, though, and knew his future depended on making MORE stars.  The new guard helped to prepare the third wave, the third wave would help prepare the fourth, etc, etc, etc… What we see now in the WWE is an ongoing process of introduction, rise, reign, and fall of the talent.  This is something both of the “Big 2″ need to look at.

Marvel has their “reigning old guard”: Captain America/Steve Rogers, Thor, Hulk/Bruce Banner, the Fantastic Four (Ben Grimm, Reed Richards, Sue Richards, Johnny Storm), Iron Man/Tony Stark… they haven’t really introduced any new “talent” that has gained any traction (or been given a chance to take their place at the top).  Now, the X-Men keep introducing new and interesting characters but those characters never have a chance to rise above the ones that came before.  There have been people who have stepped into the roles to replace the originals (John Walker AND Bucky Barnes both took over the role of Captain America; James Rhodes took over the role of Iron Man) but the original always took over and returned to be the “one.”

DC has also got their “reigning old guard”: Superman/Clark Kent, Batman/Bruce Wayne, Wonder Woman, Flash/Barry Allen… DC, in my opinion, has done even less as far as “introducing the next generation,” but have gone about utilizing their next generation in a slightly different manner.  Like Marvel, they have had people replace their “big guys” (Wally West became the Flash, Kyle Raynor became Green Lantern, Dick Grayson finally became Batman) and have returned their originals to their rightful throne just like Marvel did, albeit through a reimaging.

So, what does this have to do with pro wrestling?

DC needs to let Bruce Wayne retire and let Dick Grayson be the Batman.  Marvel needs to let Steve Rogers grow old and have someone else replace him (permanently) as Captain America.  Barry Allen needs to give up being the Flash so Wally West can take over… which then will relinquish it to Bart Allen.  Peter Parker will eventually have a child, who will probably have some spider powers, and he can become the next Spider-Man.    What I’m saying is that people get old, people die, and things progress… but DC and Marvel haven’t.  DC and Marvel haven’t added many new characters because they have their standby favorites still in place.  Let’s see some progress… plus, think of all the spectacular stories that can be told.

Thor and Superman are both, effectively, immortal.  What kind of story do you tell when everyone they know grows old and dies?  What do you do when Spider-Man dies and there isn’t one to replace him?  How about Captain America goes to a genetically engineered “new breed” super soldier and is put to the test (not like John Walker)?  What about Aquakids?  Is the Flash Force hereditary?  Now that humans can be effective Green Lanterns, who will replace Hal Jordan when he’s locked up in Ye Olde Folks Home?

Pro wrestling is plagued by injuries and retirements of talent that force them to fill open spots with new talent.  Marvel and DC need to look at doing the same thing.

I’m not suggesting this happens overnight.  Hell, if they start working towards that right now I think we wouldn’t even see the beginnings of the shift to “new heroes” for almost two decades.  The seeds have to be sown in order to allow the fruits of those seeds to be reaped in the future.

STOP bringing people back from the dead.  START looking at innovation.  Using the same characters non-stop over and over again isn’t innovation.

Do the old standby heroes have to completely disappear?  No.  They can still have stories that are told in books… books that don’t interact in the “current” universe.  Captain America can always be Steve Rogers in a specific book geared towards only telling his stories… why does he have to have 75 to 100 years of history while having them told?  He doesn’t.

I’d love to read some comments.  I want to hear what you think.  I also want to hear what you think about what pro wrestling DOES about their innovating new talent and I want you to forget your prejudices about whatever you might feel about the industry of pro wrestling… because “wrestling is fake” doesn’t help… that isn’t the issue.

Think on it.

I’ve announced that I’m turning Lime Flavored.com into a network.  In the same way that TWiT.tv has become a network, I will be putting out netcasts as well… one show at a time. To reflect this, I’m actively working on setting up a line up of shows (or potential shows) that will be done in video and audio (some shows will be brought into the new network that will remain audio), but for the most part, all of the netcasts on Lime Flavored.com will be done in multiple formats.  If you saw the “Shows” link at that top of the page, and click on the word “Shows,” you’ll get a run down of what we’ve been doing and what we will be doing (i.e. what is being planned).  Also, listed under that are two shows that have their very own pages… that’s because they WILL be on the new netcast network as video shows.  They are (so you don’t have to wonder):

     

Also, right next to the “Shows” link is a link that says “Projects.”  For those listeners of the Lime Flavored Podcast, you’ll recognize this as the place to find out about all of the code named projects that have been announced (and, with luck, their progress).  Currently, three projects have been announced (what, three?) and one of them has already been postponed.  The reason is complicated but the easiest explanation is “it works into another future project.”  The projects that have been officially announced are:

The important thing to note is that progress is being made.  There was a test video to test out the online video player and it should work in any browser, so things should be visible to you no matter what device or browser you’re using.  This video player will also be displaying other videos that will be put up in the near future to test out some of the recording devices over the next couple of months… what will they show?  I can’t speak for all of them, but one of them will show you the set that the Lime Flavored Show and Limelight on Apple will be shooting on… and it isn’t even 100% ready yet!

This is only a test.

What’s going to happen with the Lime Flavored Podcast?
Well, the 50th episode of the Lime Flavored Podcast was recorded on July 29, 2012, and the editing (while slated to begin four days before this post) will not begin until after August 18.  Why?  Well, the calendar filled up with an emergency in this coming week and next week there is a planned business trip that will prevent anything happening before then.  Will the Lime Flavored Podcast continue after episode 50?  The decision on this one is up in the air, mainly because we’re moving towards bringing you newer, and hopefully video, programming.

What shows are coming to the Lime Flavored Network?
I’m so glad you asked… the flagship of the network is the upcoming video program known as the Lime Flavored Show.  The idea behind the Lime Flavored Show is similar to what the Lime Flavored Podcast had become, which was about discussing a topic (or many topics).  The Lime Flavored Show, though, will be occurring multiple times a week (three is the primary target, five after things settle in) and will be shorter (at least at first) and will focus on a single topic.  There may be guests on for certain episodes, but the sole host will be DJ Allen (unless circumstances occur requiring a guest host or multiple guest hosts).  Is that the only show?  Nope.

Another video show coming to the network is Limelight on Apple, the focus on technology relating to (or in competition of) Apple. Your hosts, DJ and Tricia Allen, will be discussing the software and hardware created and distributed by Apple, while occasionally discussing related products that might be in direct competition with Apple.  This show will be a weekly feature and may have the occasional guest host, when the topic demands it.

If you’ve been under a rock, or haven’t been checking the feed lately, the White Wolf Publishing’s World of Darkness podcast Echoes Darkly has been running since July 14.  This bi-weekly audio podcast (or at least, originally just audio… which is now recorded on Google+ Hangouts) is two episodes in as of this post and already has a nice base of listeners already. Sean Steele and DJ Allen talk about the Worlds of Darkness, both old and new, and we’ve only just gotten started.  We will have on guests, special hosts (of whom are currently being enticed over) and we intend to go on as long as we have topics to talk about.  More releases are being discussed, but currently we are offering a podcast once every other week.

How about the other podcasts that were on the Lime Flavored iTunes feed? Well, we still have the Bad Breakers (they have their own release schedule) who discuss the Breaking Bad TV show from AMC, we still have (once he returns to broadcasting during the school year) J-Bear on the Air, and we still have the BobCast (the lack of episodes lately isn’t Bob’s fault… it’s his editor, and we’re working to correct that). We’re also working on more!

Can I have a show on the network?
Absolutely! You just need to send an email to trumpshairforpresident@gmail.com to let us know!  The show can be audio only, video, or a combination of the two.  If you don’t know what the limitations of the topics/focus would be, then you can ask… but the same thing with running a business applies here: if you want to do it but you don’t know what you want to do, then perhaps you should’t be podcasting… the best ideas, businesses/podcasts, come from those with a sound base and solid business plan.  We will work with you, though.
