DC in September – #0s, re-reboot possible?

There is some speculation among comic book websites that the solicits for DC’s New 52 September issues might be pointing towards one of two things: renumbering AGAIN or a re-reboot.  I’d like to comment on both of these concepts and add what I think is actually going on.

First of all: renumbering.  I have heard a theory that comics, since they like to release #1 issues so often, should work more like “seasons” rather than just straight numbering.  So, for example, Superman should be Superman #1-12, then can REDO the #1-12 issues by labeling them “Season 2.”  Well, Season 2, Series 2, Volume 2, etc, etc, etc… then, you can have your #1 issue every year (or maybe go to 24 or 25… or hell, maybe even 50!)… then, when you want to “restart” or refresh your universe, you just start things over with #1 Season 1.  If the idea is just to arbitrarily renumber everything back to #1, I will be disappointed in DC’s marketing department… or DC as a whole.

Second: re-reboot.  To reboot your universe and, after some fan complaints and whining about whether or not Superman is wearing his underwear on the outside, reboot your universe again (or return to the original one)… that’s just asinine.  Ridiculous.  DC needs to be concentrating on building this world they spent so much time developing… or do what Marvel did and just make an “Ultimate” line… something more realistic.

Side note: DC’s universe, compared to Marvel’s, is far less realistic… yet, their stories are interesting enough to get me involved in them.  Conversely, the Ultimate Comics imprint is more realistic than Marvel’s 616 (well, sorta) and they’ve got me super interested, too… so, what I’d suggest, to DC, is to start angling at least some form of DC universe towards more realistic… because I think that would REALLY get be dropping some coin on them.

What do I think is happening?  I think the #0 issues are just the “place holder” for an anniversary of the reboot.  I think that there may be something interesting happening in them but I think that the whole point is just to draw attention to the fact that we’ve made it through a whole year and nobody died, despite the cries of whiners and curmudgeons.

We’ll see what happens after September, though…

Episode 9

Ultimate Comics… from the beginning

I have been collecting the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (version 2, or more poignantly, the Miles Morales version), Ultimate Comics X-Men (started at the same time as the previously mentioned comic), and Ultimate Comics Ultimates (again, same release time)… and I’ve been enjoying the hell out of them.  I’m LOST, but I’m enjoying the hell out of them.

When Ultimate Spider-Man first came out, I bought the first 3 or 4 issues and was too into the mainstream Marvel universe at the time, so I stopped collecting it… ironically, only the first issue ever got read.

I have recently come into the entire run of Ultimate Marvel/Ultimate Comics… and I’ve painstakingly figured out the proper “reading order” in which to read them… basically, I’m reading them in the order they were released.  Simple, yet efficient.

I will be reading the ENTIRE RUN of Ultimate Marvel and Ultimate Comics to catch up to where I’m currently at (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #11, Ultimate Comics Ultimates #10, and Ultimate Comics X-Men #12).  I’ll probably stop reading before the current run of books starts (so I don’t re-read them), or maybe I’ll want to keep going.  The Ultimate Comics line from Marvel has really captivated me and I’m honestly not very interested in what’s going on in the 616.

How did Marvel get me back into comics?  Ultimate Comics Spider-Man… Miles Morales.  How did DC get me back into comics?  The new DC 52… though only a few of the comics from that line have survived my interest.

I wanted to do a podcast about comics but I don’t have anyone that I can coordinate with often enough to make it work.  I also notice that no one is really interested in the same things I am… comic-wise, that is.  My current “pull list” is as follows:

  • Justice League (DC)
  • Action Comics (DC)
  • Aquaman (DC)
  • Batman (DC)
  • Batwing (DC)
  • Green Lantern: New Guardians (DC)
  • Superman (DC)
  • Superboy (DC)
  • Teen Titans (DC)
  • Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (Marvel)
  • Ultimate Comics Ultimates (Marvel)
  • Ultimate Comics X-Men (Marvel)

Not an overwhelming list.  I dropped Detective TWICE because I figured I’d get detective based Batman stories… I’m just getting more Batman.  Action or Superman will probably be dropped next, I’m not remembering which one of the two is irritating me, but I know of them is… and Teen Titans is on a short leash, too.  Of the DC group, BATWING is far and away the BEST DC COMIC at present.  Spider-Man rules the Marvel side (the Ultimate Comics version).

Oh, crap… I didn’t include Invincible!  I get it, but I don’t get it regularly… I usually skip a couple of months and catch up in one big leap.  That’s the ONLY Image book I’m getting right now.  I know I hear about how great Walking Dead is, but I’m so far behind, I want to catch up on Ultimate Marvel before I head in that direction… plus, I’m not into zombies like everyone else is.

Anyone else like what I’m reading?

Here is classic episode #3!

BobCast 4

I tried something a little different this time… just Bob… snippets of Bob… talking… all by himself… no special sound effects.

Feedback would be appreciated.

Bad Breakers 5: Thirty-Eight Snub (4×02)

The ladies of the Bad Breakers come back at you with episode 2 of season 4 entitled Thirty-Eight Snub!

About the United States Constitution

Most of the Founding Fathers of the United States intended the Constitution to be amended to fit the times, not kept mostly intact from the original draft of the document for over 200 years.  And, as has been pointed out many, many, many times: freedom OF religion also means freedom FROM religion.  When someone imposes a SPECIFIC RELIGIOUS PRINCIPLE into a legal document that will be imposed upon many different types of beliefs and many different religions.  That is important to point out.

I want to point out that many things the Founding Fathers put into the Constitution that were changed to make the United States a better place to live.  How about the removal of Prohibition?  Sure, it would have been better if it wasn’t in there in the first place, but if we didn’t change the damn document, we’d all be living in a very different place.  How about the 13th Amendment that abolishes slavery?  If we didn’t amend that, we’d still own black people… and that is not cool.  What about the 19th Amendment that allows women to vote?  Yeah, maybe we want to repeal that one… just kidding, ladies.  I jest.

So, what I’m getting at is that the Bible thumpers, yes I’m calling them Bible thumpers, keep hammering on the fact that same sex marriage shouldn’t be allowed.  Why not?  Is it because when you hang out with tall people you also become tall?  Is that because two gay parents will only raise gay children (like straight parents only raise straight children)?  Is it because your religion forbids it?  Well, I think your Bible also forbids all kinds of other stuff, too… let me post the image about what else could’t, shouldn’t, can’t, and isn’t supposed to be done by followers of the Bible:

Yeah.

As an American, I want people to stop quoting the Bible about should or should not be done.  I am not a Christian, thus, I do not follow your Bible.  Your Bible has no meaning to me, thus, I should not swear on it or have to listen to things that are contained within.  I don’t push my religious beliefs on you, please stop pushing your religious beliefs on me.  Extremely religious people can be quiet about their faith… like the guy below:

Sorry about this long post.  It needed to be said.

Podcast of Darkness Episode 6

This episode used to come in two flavors: one long episode and two shorter ones.  This is what I’m deciding on releasing this time, though, the one long version.

Lime Flavored Podcast 45 – British Invasion

The largest Lime Flavored Podcast crew ever!  I’m joined by fellow Manchester United fan Mike, his son Michael, Morgan Imperial returns for a second appearance and her significant other Carl (unfortunately, an Arsenal fan) have a discussion about a great many things… which centers primarily around the Premier League and soccer.

JBear on the Air Traveling Podcast Episode 1

A short time ago, in a city that’s really, really close.

JBear on the Air

Traveling Podcast

EPISODE ONE

The University of Minnesota Moorhead was done for the season and cast out the podcast giant Jared (giant in size, not in stature). He was forced to take his show on the road.

There was an evil empire that was pursuing him relentlessly as he drove around, without pants, protesting various charities for their “great work.” Yes, protesting.

Then came a man from Nantucket, who always carried a bucket… when he got high, he opened his fly, and that’s where our story begins…

Podcast of Darkness Episode 4

Surprise!

I whined, but here’s another episode of the Podcast of Darkness.

One ROUGH Week

This has been a really rough week for me and I’ve fallen behind on stuff… I apologize.

This coming week is looking up, though, as I’ve got Lime Flavored Podcast #45 being recorded TOMORROW and will include stuff about the Manchester United game (vs. Swansea City) and the Avengers movie!  We are hoping for a Scuzz return for this episode as well, since he’s tentatively going to accompany us to both the game (at a local place – Reza’s Pitch) and the theater to watch the movie in 3D.  Also this week, I’ve got at least 2 episodes worth of audio for the BobCast that I can assemble and release… I feel bad for not doing anything with what I had for the past couple weeks but I’ve been working too damn much.  I’m sure the Bad Breakers will be making another episode release this week, too, stay tuned!

As for the Podcast of Darkness and the “retro release of Lime Flavored Podcasts,” I will be doing a double release next week to make up for my lack of releases this past week.  Hell, I’ll be making a massive release of all kinds of stuff this coming week because, damnit, you deserve it!

Oh, did I mention I’ll have some special guests on a future episode of the Lime Flavored Podcast?  I’m hoping to score at least one, maybe two episodes of guest stars (former guest star Morgan Imperial and Carlos Van Vegas, who has commented in the past and is coming over from merry old England!).

The Planets.nu podcast, the Nuniverse, is being arranged to get the podcast started…

Yay!

Podcast of Darkness Episode 3

I was going to start releasing these on Mondays… but my Monday was so bad this week, it’s coming out on a Tuesday.  Sorry.
